Two-Step Verification

Two-step verification adds a second layer of protection to your account.

Once you set up two-step verification, your login procedure changes: After entering your LogMeIn ID and password, you are also required to verify your identity using either a mobile authenticator app or text message (or using a backup method, which can be either text message or email).

Step-by step setup involves two main tasks.
  • First, set up a primary method for receiving login codes: Authenticator app or text message. If you have a smartphone, we recommend authenticator app as your primary method. On iOS and Android, we recommend our own LogMeIn Authenticator app.
  • Second, set up either text message or email as a backup in case your primary method is not available.
  1. Go to LogMeIn.com, join.me, or cubby.com.
  2. Log in to your account using your LogMeIn ID (email address) and password.
  3. At the top of the page, click Settings and then Account Settings.

The Account Settings page is displayed.

  4. Under Security, look for Two-step verification and click get started.
  5. Choose the primary method you want to use to receive codes.
    1. To receive codes via an authenticator app running on a smartphone, choose set up mobile app and follow these steps:
      • If you do not have an authenticator app, download one to your mobile device.
      • Confirm that you have an authenticator app and click Next.
      • Launch the authenticator app on your mobile device. On the app, choose Begin setup or Add account (or similar), and then scan the secret key shown on the LogMeIn Accounts website (in your browser).
      • Check your app. Enter the code generated by the app for your LogMeIn account.
      • Click Finish mobile setup.
    2. To receive codes via text message sent to your phone, choose Set up text message and follow these steps:
      • Enter the phone number to which login codes should be sent and click Next. A code is sent.
      • Go to your phone and open the text message from LogMeIn.
      • Enter the code from the text message on the Verify phone number page.
      • Click Finish text setup.
  6. Choose the backup method you want to use to receive codes when your primary method is unavailable.
    1. When your primary method is authenticator app, you can choose text message as your backup (follow the instructions above).
    2. When your primary method is text message, you must enter an email address as your backup.
      • Click Set up email.
      • Enter the email address you want to use to receive codes. To use the same address you use to log in to LogMeIn, click Use your LogMeIn ID.
      • Go to your email inbox and open the message from LogMeIn.
      • Enter the code on the Set up email page in your browser.
      • Click Finish email setup.

What to expect upon next log in

  • LogMeIn Authenticator: Tap the on-screen notification to confirm your identity.
  • Authenticator app other than LogMeIn Authenticator: Enter a one-time code that you get from the paired authenticator app.
  • Text message: Enter the one-time code sent to the number.
  • Primary method is unavailable: Request a code via your backup.

How to switch off two-step verification

You may want to switch off two-step verification if you get a new device or no longer want to take advantage of the feature.
Remember: You may be required by your administrator to use two-step verification.
  1. Log in to your account using your LogMeIn ID (email address) and password. The Computers page is displayed.
  2. At the top of the page, click Settings and then Account Settings. The Account settings page is displayed.
  3. Under Security, click Two-step verification.
  4. If you want to remove the pairing between any two-step verification method and your LogMeIn account, select Clear all settings when I switch off.
  5. Click Switch off.

Tip: If you chose Clear all settings when I switch off, LogMeIn will still be listed in your app, but any login codes it generates will not be accepted. To avoid confusion, we recommend removing LogMeIn from your app.

Where is two-step verification valid?

Two-step verification works with LogMeIn products and components that allow login via accounts.logme.in, LogMeIn's common login service. Certain legacy products and components do not meet this requirement.
